Garden Practices
Garden Practices
The Monastery grounds and gardens reflect the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia’s care for the environment and our desire to create a peaceful sanctuary where both people and nature can flourish in harmony. Our practices emphasize:
• Native Virginia plants and flowers.
• Designated pollinator areas, offering essential habitat for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.
• A refuge for birds and wildlife.
• A “mini arboretum”, featuring a variety of tree species native to our region.
The gardens are tended by the Sisters and volunteers.

As an extension of our Place of Peace, the Benedictine Sisters are establishing a new prayer garden, lovingly dedicated to Sister Andrea Verchuck (1929-2025), which will be located on the site of the former monastery building.
